Manacor is located at the east of Mallorca. It is the capital of the region of Llevant and the second city of the island in importance. It has a population of 36.000 inhabitants in a surface area of 260 Km². It includes the Manacor city, Son Macià & Son Negre in the coast, Porto Cristo (also known as Port de Manacor) and some developments, such as Calas de Mallorca and Cala Murada.
Manacor is the birthplace of many civilizations: it has a rich patrimony of Talaiotic towns (towns constructed from ancient rocks) and archaeological sites of the first settlers of Mallorca.
The economy in Manacor is based in cereal crops, vineyards and fig and almond trees plantations. Today, also tourism is one of the principal sources of income, together with its very traditional furniture and artificial pearls industries.
Coasts
Manacor has a coastline of more than 20 Km. with extraordinary coves of transparent, blue waters, and surrounded by plants typical of dry lands.
Cales de Mallorca is located in southeast Mallorca, in the coastal part of the finca s’Hospitalet Vell, 15 Km. away from Manacor. This urbanization development became widely known in the 70’s. It is the main tourist centre of Manacor and therefore, it has a significant number of facilities and services. In fact, it holds the greatest amount of hotel beds in the region. Its cliffs and seas are great for scuba diving. Cales de Mallorca includes the Cala Antena, Es Domingos Gran and Es Domingos Petit coves. The housing development also has a tourist info office.
Beaches, nature parks and seabeds
The coast of Manacor is a series of beautiful and natural beaches and coves. The Foundation for Environmental Education has awarded the municipality of Manacor with 8 blue flags in 2005, in recognition of the quality of the waters and services offered by its beaches.
The awarded beaches are s’Illot, Cala Anguila, Cala Mendia, s’Estany d’en Mas, Cala Antena, Es Domingos Gran, Es Domingos Petit and Cala Murada. The last four mentioned are the ones the future residents of the Mar Inmobilaria developments will enjoy.
In Manacor, 32 Km² have been declared as areas of special interest. More than 6 of these areas are part of the rocky coast, conformed by virgin, beautiful coves. This delighting landscape that begins in s’Estany d’en Mas and ends in Cales de Mallorca presents a great diversity of flora and fauna.
The seabeds of the Manacor coast are ideal for scuba-diving.
